A major issue in the slums is lack of public toilets. The ratio declared as acceptable by the officials in 50:1. However, in some slums, the real ratio is somewhere around 700:1. Where the 2 main rivers (Mula and Matha) of Pune meet, people go near the water for their basic necessities, so a wide area is always filled with dirt and has a high risk for diseases. The worst problem of the people living near the rivers is the rainy season, when their houses are completely flooded. They have to move to public schools each year for a few months.
