Along with unemployment, lack of basic utilies and other issues, Pune is also facing a real HIV epidemic. According to Deep Griha, one the most active NGOs in the area, 18.000 people were tested in 2007 and around 12% of them were found positive. Muskan ("Smile") is 10 years old. She was born with HIV; she's an orphan and she lives with her grandmother. Their only income is the money that her grandmother receives for making chapati (bread) for a hotel (100 chapatis for 15 rupees). The other children in the school where Muskan goes are not aware that she's positive, otherwise she will face lots of issues.
